– 1976-1979 Residency in Endocrinology, Hospital Clínic, Barcelona

-1983-1984 Fulbright/La Caixa Grant for research in Reproductive Neuroendocrinology at UTHSC in San Antonio, Texas (Melatonin, pineal) and University Hospital in Minneapolis (Reproductive Gynaecology).
Current Professional/Academic positions:
– Senior Consultant Endocrinologist in Hospital Sant Pau, and Full Professor of Medicine at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
– Responsible for the Neuroendocrine Clinic and the Pituitary Disease network of excellence research group (CIBERER unit 747), interested in the long-term consequences of having suffered pituitary diseases and evaluation of health-related quality of life.
Research experience:
– Principal investigator of over 40 publically funded grants devoted to Neuroendocrinology (Pituitary tumours and dysfunctions, acromegaly, Cushing’s syndrome, somatostatin, hypothalamus), pineal gland and melatonin, and thyroid/multiple endocrine neoplasia.
– Principal Investigator of numerous clinical trials including drugs for the substitution treatment with rhGH of adults with growth hormone deficiency, different somatostatin analogs or GH-receptor antagonists for acromegaly, rhFSH for hypogonadism, pasireotide for Cushing’s disease, macimorelin for the diagnosis of GH deficiency, etc.
– Coordinator of the European Registry on Cushing’s syndrome (ERCUSYN) initially funded by the EU (SANCO program 2007-2010)
– Director of 20 Ph. D. Thesis and numerous Postgraduate research projects
Responsibilities in Scientific Societies:
– 1990-1999 Officer of the European Pineal Society
– 1996-1999 President of the Spanish Society for Endocrinology and Nutrition
– 2000-2004 Secretary of ENEA, and President of the POC for the ENEA meeting held in Sorrento, Italy in 2004. Also member of the POC for the ENEA meeting held in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2014.
– 2001-2004 Officer of the Executive Committee of EFES
– 2014-2018 member of the ExCo of the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) and member of the POC for ECE 2018 in Barcelona.

– Member of the editorial boards of JCEM, Pituitary, Endocrine, Medicina Clínica, Endocrinología y Nutrición, among others.
Other professional/scientific responsibilities:
– 2004-2010 Chairperson of one of the 7 Scientific the Research Committees of the Spanish Health Research Fund (Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias, Instituto de Salud Carlos III), for “Chronic and Inflammatory Diseases”.
– 2009-2013 Member of the European Union Committee of Experts on Rare Diseases (EUCERD)
– Since 2016 Scientific Assistant Director of CIBERER (Centro de Investigación Científica en Red en Enfermedades Raras)
– Since 2016 President of the Rare Disease Advisory Committee of the Catalan health system Catsalut.
